Ten facts about me, in what I hope is a logical order:

  1. I’m a writer and editor based not too far from London, England.
  2. I work on my own – as a freelance – and as part of an agency that I run with an old newspaper colleague.
  3. Mostly, I cover business, technology, science and social issues, but I was described recently as "a social media guru".
  4. I've made a living out of writing and editing for nearly 20 years. My work has appeared in national, international and specialist magazines and newspapers, including the Independent, the Times and GQ.
  5. I do a lot of corporate communications work and have been involved in marketing and PR projects for a wide range of clients in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. These include Ernst & Young, Microsoft, Deloitte, Accenture, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the NSPCC. (see my portfolio tab)
  6. I write for love, as well as for money. I studied on the creative writing programme at Birkbeck, University of London, for two years, where I dabbled in short fiction, poetry and drama. Before that, I spent a couple of years at workshops run by the wonderful - and endearingly batty - Linda James.
  7. I recently completed a masters degree in Cultural and Media Studies with the Open University, where I focused on the relationships between social science, media, technology and culture. My final dissertation was about self help books and the nature of modern work.
  8. I used to be a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, but resigned in a huff because their member magazine never arrived.
  9. I'm still  a member of the National Union of Journalists, but doubt that it's worth the money.
  10. To keep fit - and reasonably sane - I run marathons and ultra marathons
