Richard Sambrook, head of news at the BBC, has written recently about open source journalism. But is it a threat to freelance writers, or an opportunity? I grabbed him at We Media, and asked. Listen to the raw interview here:
Richard Sambrook interview
Kieren,
Yes, Sambrook seems to think that as a freelancer I'm in competition with the BBC and Reuters, which I'm not. No commissions via your blog? Maybe you will get some, maybe not. But is that why you're blogging?

Well done for grabbing him Neil, but I've just listened twice and I didn't actually hear anything.
He said: You might be able to find an expert through your blog. But the BBC is better. See yer!
I hate the management speak as well.
It strikes me that the very first evidence of a change in the way mainstream media functions thanks to new technologies, would be seen by freelancers.
I haven't seen any new commissions coming my way thanks to media outlets reading my blog. Stuff a' nonsense.

You not here for the second day Neil? Looking forward to listening to your interview when I get a chance - and headphones...
